- Feeding the mind, nourishing the soul

Terry Mabery

It was just a month or two ago that teens and young adults were graduating from high school and from college. Young men and women proudly walked across a stage to receive a diploma. They endured years of preparation and study in order to obtain that diploma, to bask in the glory of graduation. They had disciplined themselves and had met the requirements. They had earned graduation. That day marked the end of one age and the beginning of another.

We, too, look forward to a graduation of sorts. There are requirements that must be met. We must be children of God, believers who have been baptized into Christ (Galatians 3:26-29). We must live disciplined lives, becoming obedient to God (1 Corinthians 9:24-27; Hebrews 5:9). Yet, our graduation is not earned. It is a gift from God given by His grace. For without the death of His Son, who was sent by Him, we could not obtain the glory that awaits us as we graduate from a corruptible life to an incorruptible life when we pass from this earth to eternity. That will mark the end of one age of our life and the beginning of another.

But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.  2 Thess 2:13-14 ESV

Give thanks to God today. Praise Him for the salvation that is found in His Son. Share the good news with others.

Have a wonderful day. Live to His glory.

Have you ever noticed how smaller birds will chase away larger birds of prey or menacing birds? I have often seen several smaller birds diving at a larger, less maneuverable bird. The smaller bird would be no match for the larger bird, but several of them together can put the larger bird to flight as it dodges the onslaught of the smaller birds.

There is one who continues to be a menace to the life of the Christian. Satan is always trying to deceive. He is always trying to find weaknesses. He is always looking for an advantage by which he can overcome you.

We need to learn the lesson of the smaller birds. We Christians need one another. We need to help one another and come to the aid of one another.

But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called "today," that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.  Heb 3:13 ESV

Make it your goal this week to encourage someone. Make a phone call to encourage. Write a note to let someone know they are in your prayers. Let us encourage one another. We are brothers and sisters with the goal in life.
