We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, 4. since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love which you have for all the saints; 5. because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel 6. which has come to you, just as in all the world also it is constantly bearing fruit and increasing, even as it has been doing in you also since the day you heard of it and understood the grace of God in truth (Colossians 1:3-6).
What do you say at a moment like this that hasn't already been said?
This is my 3rd AMC. Different when it is at your church.
What a week it has been! We have formed new relationships; met members of our community; learned new strategies for saving souls. Now what?
I recently read a quote that said, God did not give us an event. He gave us His word. We can agree that this week has been much more than event; it has been a week of working together for the good of the man and the church.
Events are well-intentioned and have their place, but if these events are the only times we evangelize; we are missing everyday opportunities to spread the Word.
Paul in Acts 17 1-2
Now what? Remember, Acts 1?
Jesus had left them with clear instructions. Tell people about me and what I did for them. This cannot happen if brethren are standing around!
This campaign will soon be over. We will be on a mission high. We will feel close to God. You are focused on the Great commission. Enthusiasm is boiling over. You may go home excited and tell the brethren about this week and they may say that can't happen here. You might hear, that sounds like a lot of work. Change the culture; be steadfast, pray, stay focused, don't stand around, lead the effort, and share your experience.
Promote, promote, promote!
The mission trip is over, but the mission will never be over in this life. Last year after we returned from the Cary AMC, 3 of us gave a report to the congregation. Two of our teenagers and me. Go home report to your leadership and ask to report to your congregation and do so with enthusiasm. Share the hope and joy that working together brings.
We are soon going to be to that point where we say our goodbyes and head home. Then what? Stand around?
Since we know the terror of the Lord, we persuade (convince) men. II Cor. 5:11 Convince men of what…when they are in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. II Cor. 5:17 Do you think there is anyone out there looking for a fresh start?
That makes us ambassadors (representatives) for Christ as though God was pleading thru us. II Cor. 5:20 So, let's be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you. I Peter 3:15
The great prophet Isaiah had just lost his king. He was in the presence of the eternal King, and spoke with angels. He realized his lack of holiness when he saw the holiness of the Lord. In Isaiah 6:8, the Lord asked, Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us? Isaiah's response, Here am I! Send me. We, too, have been commissioned (Matthew 28/Mark 16) to deliver a most powerful message... the Gospel message, which has the power to save man from his sins…Romans 1:16. Beginning June 22, the American Mission Campaign will make its way here to the Collinsville-Troy Church of Christ. It is likely that 150 or so brethren from across the US will be here, too, helping us reach the community with the good news. This is a congregational event; congregational evangelism training and work that could bring tremendous growth to our congregation and make us better soul winners. We will have a lot of help from people we do not know. But we need you; each and every member can do something (I Corinthians 12:12-27).
